Creating and saving a recipe
Last updated
Turn the meals you eat often into a recipe, so you can log them in one tap. What you make is yours, and it stays private.
Moveno keeps three kinds of recipes in one place: Moveno's own, the community's, and your own. This article is about the last one — how to build one yourself.
Your own recipes are always private. Nobody else can see them unless you offer one to the community, which is a separate, deliberate step.
Where recipes live
- Diary tab → Recipes. Tap "Full library" for everything, or use the Moveno, Community and Favourites buttons.
- Home screen. The quick-add row at the top has a Recipe button.
The library has three tabs: Discover, My recipes and Favourites. You start a new recipe with the plus button.
How it works — building a recipe
- Open the recipe library and tap the plus button. This opens "New recipe".
- Give your recipe a name (1 to 120 characters).
- Under Recipe type, pick at least one moment: breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. That is how your recipe becomes findable by meal later on.
- Set the number of servings (1 to 100) and, if you like, the prep time in minutes.
- Add ingredients with "Add ingredient". Search by name, or scan the barcode on a package. Tap an ingredient to adjust its amount in grams.
- Describe the method with "Add step". You can add and remove steps as you go.
- Add a photo if you want — take one, or choose one from your library.
- Tap Save. Your recipe now sits under My recipes.
As you build, Moveno works out the nutrition per serving live, from your ingredients and the number of servings. You never type in calories or macros yourself.
Faster: turn a meal into a recipe
Cooked something and just logged it? You do not have to type it in again.
- From your diary: open the menu on a meal and choose "Save as a recipe". The ingredients are already filled in.
- Right after logging: on the results screen you can switch on "Also save as a recipe". After saving, the recipe builder opens with the same ingredients, and your meal photo comes along.
Either way you start at one serving — the serving count and the method are yours to fill in.
Good to know
- Private is the default. A recipe you make belongs to you alone. There is no setting that can change that by accident; sharing is always a separate choice.
- Not every product can be an ingredient. If you see "Incomplete nutrition", we do not have every value for that product, so it cannot go into a recipe — the per-serving nutrition would not add up. Pick a comparable product that is complete.
- Limits: at most 60 ingredients and 40 steps per recipe, 1 to 100 servings, and a prep time between 1 and 1440 minutes.
- A photo is never load-bearing. If the upload fails, your recipe is still saved — just without the photo. You can add one later.
- Your recipe stays editable. Open it and choose Edit. The one exception: while a recipe is with the community for review, it is briefly locked.
- You can always delete it. Meals you already logged from that recipe stay in your diary.
Common questions
Can anyone else see my recipes? No. Your own recipes are private. They only become visible to others if you offer one to the community and Moveno approves it.
Do I have to enter calories myself? No. Moveno calculates the nutrition per serving from your ingredients. If something looks off, check the amounts in grams and the number of servings.
Why can't I add this product? For some products we do not have complete nutrition. We deliberately keep those out of recipes, because the per-serving values would become unreliable.
Can I make a recipe from something I ate yesterday? Yes — open that meal in your diary and choose "Save as a recipe".
I edited my recipe. Do I need to save anything again? No, changes apply to your own recipe straight away. If you shared that recipe with the community earlier, the community version does not change with it — for that you submit an update.
