Sharing your recipe with the community

Last updated

Sharing is always a separate, deliberate choice. Your recipes stay private until you offer one yourself.

Got a recipe others would benefit from? You can offer it to the Moveno community. Someone at Moveno reviews it, and only then does it join the library everyone sees.

How it works — submitting a recipe

  1. Open one of your own recipes under My recipes.
  2. Switch on "Share with the community".
  3. Read what happens — it is laid out in four points on screen — and confirm.
  4. Your recipe is labelled In review. You will find it under My recipes.
  5. Once Moveno has looked at it, that is where you will see whether it was approved.

While your recipe is under review you cannot edit it for a moment. That is deliberate: otherwise the reviewer would be looking at something other than what you submitted.

What you are told up front

Before you confirm, Moveno shows you exactly what sharing means:

  • Your recipe is shown with your first name only.
  • Moveno checks the nutrition before it goes live.
  • Once approved, your recipe stays in the community. You can always have your name removed.
  • Shared recipes may also be used to improve Moveno and in marketing — without your name.

Read that third point carefully: an approved recipe cannot be withdrawn. Your name can. See After you share a recipe.

What Moveno checks

  • A method is required. Without at least one step we cannot review the recipe. If you see "Add a method first", fill in the steps and try again.
  • The nutrition is recalculated on the server from your ingredients. If that differs sharply from what was stored, your recipe goes to the reviewer with that note — your submission is not simply refused.
  • Dietary labels are derived by us from your ingredients. A label such as "vegetarian" appears only if every single ingredient provably carries it. If you use a manual ingredient we do not know, the labels are dropped — we would rather say nothing than something that might be wrong.
  • Ingredients must still exist in our database and have complete nutrition.

How many you can submit per day

You can submit 20 recipes per 24 hours. That is meant to be generous: review is done by a person, and the limit keeps one account from filling the queue.

Two things worth knowing:

  • It is a rolling 24-hour window, not a calendar day. The limit does not "reset" at midnight. Room frees up as soon as your oldest submission is 24 hours old — which can well be earlier the same day.
  • Only successful submissions count. If a recipe is refused because something is missing, it does not cost you a slot. You can fix it and submit again straight away.

If you submit several in very quick succession, Moveno may ask you to wait a moment. That is a separate, short brake of about a minute.

Good to know

  • Sharing is per recipe. There is no setting that shares all of your recipes at once.
  • Your own copy stays yours. Even after approval you keep your own recipe, and you can go on using and editing it.
  • An update goes through review again. If you change a shared recipe, the community version does not change automatically — you submit an updated version.
  • If sharing does not work right now, your recipe simply stays private and nothing has gone wrong. Try again later.

Common questions

Will my surname be shown? No. Your first name only. Your email address, your goals and your diary never travel with a shared recipe.

Can I withdraw my recipe from the community later? No. An approved recipe stays. What you can always do is have your name removed, after which the recipe is shown as "Community".

I get "You've reached today's submission limit". How long do I wait? Until your oldest submission is 24 hours old. Because the window rolls, that is often sooner than "tomorrow".

Why doesn't my recipe show "vegetarian"? Labels are derived from your ingredients. If even one ingredient is something we cannot be certain about — a manually added product, for example — we show no labels at all.

Do I have to add a photo? You do not, but it helps: a recipe with a photo stands out in the library.
