Tracking water

Last updated

Your Dashboard keeps track of how much you drink, next to your food. You choose a daily goal once, and then log a glass with one tap.

Where to find it

  • The water bar sits under the cards at the top of your Dashboard and is always visible. Tap + to log a glass. Tap the bar itself to jump to the water card.
  • The water card sits to the left of your calorie card. Swipe the cards to the right to see it. The app still opens on your calories, as you're used to.
  • On the card you'll see a glass that fills up, how much you've Logged, your Goal and your number of Glasses, with a row of small glasses underneath.

Setting your goal

  1. The first time, tap + or Glass of water. Because you don't have a goal yet, the Daily water goal screen opens first.
  2. Choose your goal with the − and + buttons (in steps of 250 ml), or with one of the quick picks: 2, 2.5, 3 or 3.5 litres. To take the suggestion, tap Use.
  3. Under Your glass size, choose how much your glass holds: 150, 200, 250, 330 or 500 ml.
  4. Tap Save goal. Your goal is saved, and the glass you tapped is logged straight away.

You can change your goal and glass size later from the goal on the water card, or under Settings → Goals → Water. A different glass doesn't change your goal, only the number of glasses.

What counts

  • Water, and also tea, coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks. There's one button: every log is a glass.
  • Drinks you log as food, for example by searching for them as a food, stay in your food diary and don't count toward water.
  • Water doesn't change your calories, your macros or your other goals.

Logging, removing and undoing

  • + or Glass of water logs one glass of your glass size.
  • − removes the last glass you logged that day.
  • Tap a small glass to set your day to that number of glasses: the dashed glass adds, an earlier glass takes you back to it.
  • Removed something by mistake? Tap Undo in the message that appears for a moment.

Other days

  • Pick a day in the week calendar to look at that day. You can log water for today and the 6 days before it. Older days and days in the future are view-only.
  • Each day keeps the goal it had. If you change your goal today, earlier days keep their old goal.

How the suggestion is worked out

The suggestion starts from EFSA's European reference values for water. EFSA sets an adequate intake of 2.0 litres of water a day for women and 2.5 litres for men, from food and drink together. Around 80% of that comes from drinks. So Moveno starts at 1.6 litres for women and 2.0 litres for men. If your sex isn't set in your profile, or is 'other', the suggestion starts at 1.8 litres.

Those values already assume a moderately active day. If you chose one of the two highest activity levels in your profile, Moveno adds 0.25 or 0.5 litres. Those steps are Moveno's own choice, not a value from EFSA. Moveno then rounds up to the next quarter litre, and the suggestion always stays between 1.5 and 3.5 litres. Your weight isn't used.

The suggestion is a starting point, not medical advice. If you have a heart or kidney condition or have been told to limit fluids, follow your doctor's advice.

Good to know

  • Your goal can be anywhere from 1 to 5 litres. If you choose more than 4 litres, you'll see a short note that this is more than most people need in a day. You can still save it.
  • If you log more than 1 litre within an hour today, the card briefly shows: "More than 1 L in the past hour. Try to spread it across the day." Your body handles water better when it's spread across the day.
  • When you reach your goal you'll see "Goal reached. Nice work." Drinking more than your goal is fine, but it doesn't earn anything extra. It's about a good habit, not a score.
  • You can log up to 10 litres a day.
  • Only you can see what you drink. It isn't shared with your groups or a coach, and it isn't sent to Apple Health or Health Connect. We keep your water log for 24 months. If you delete your account, it's all removed.
