Scan a product barcode
Last updated
The fastest way to log packaged foods: point your camera at the barcode and Moveno pulls the nutrition straight from its food database.
How it works
- Open the Scan tab and set the switcher to Barcode (the three modes are Photo / Barcode / Search).
- Point the camera at the product's barcode.
- The scanner detects it automatically — no button press needed.
- Once the product is found, its nutrition appears immediately.
- Review the per-serving values, adjust the number of servings if needed, and log the meal.
Good to know
- Supported formats: EAN-13 (standard European), EAN-8 (small packaging), UPC-A (US 12-digit), and CODE-128.
- Barcode scanning has a higher limit than photo: 50 scans per minute and 500 per hour.
- Most Dutch and European product barcodes are already in the local database, so lookups are fast.
- All nutrition values are shown per serving (not per 100 g). Where available, you get multiple serving sizes (e.g. 1 stuk, 100 g).
- Your last-used scan mode (Photo / Barcode / Search) is remembered between sessions.
- Scanning requires an active subscription or an in-window 14-day free trial, like all logging.
- Salt is computed from the product's sodium value when needed.
Common questions
The scanner isn't detecting the barcode. Hold steady, ensure good lighting, and get the whole barcode in frame; you can also choose Try again.
The barcode was found but the product is wrong. Re-scan, or use Search by name or Add manually.
A drink shows odd values. Check whether the product was entered per 100 ml or per 100 g.
I want to log only part of the package. Adjust the number of servings before logging.
