Writing logged meals to your health app
Last updated
Send your logged meals on to your health app, so apps like Apple Watch, Strava or Whoop can see your nutrition alongside your activity.
Writing to your health app is a separate choice that's off by default — just like for weight. It's never included in the standard read connection.
How it works
- Connect Apple Health or Health Connect via Profile → Preferences → Integrations.
- Open the Integrations detail screen.
- Turn on the nutrition write-back toggle.
- Approve the extra write permission in the system dialog.
- Log meals as usual — each saved meal's nutrition is then written to your health app automatically in the background.
Good to know
- Nutrition write-back is a separate toggle that's off by default (just like the weight toggle) and is never part of the standard read connection.
- What gets written: total calories plus protein, carbs, fat and fibre, and a short food-name label.
- Writing happens in the background and never slows down saving your meal.
- If you edit a meal, the matching entry in your health app is updated. If you delete a meal, that entry is removed too.
- If a meal didn't sync straight away — for example because you were offline — Moveno catches up recent meals (today and yesterday) the next time you open the app.
- Turning the toggle off stops new nutrition writes immediately and durably, but does not delete nutrition already written.
- Meal names and values are never sent to Moveno's error monitoring or logs (privacy discipline).
- If you delete your Moveno account, your data is erased from Moveno — but nutrition already written to Apple Health or Health Connect stays in your health app. You manage that there yourself.
Common questions
My meals aren't appearing in Apple Health. Nutrition write-back is off by default. Turn the toggle on in the Integrations detail screen.
I edited or deleted a meal — does my health app update? Yes: edits update the entry and deletes remove it.
A meal I logged while offline didn't sync. It's reconciled the next time you open the app, for today and yesterday.
Will my older meal history be written back too? No — only recent meals going forward. There is no full history backfill.
How do I stop sending meals to Apple Health? Turn off the nutrition write-back toggle in the detail screen. New meals are then no longer written.
