Location and country detection

Country detection is optional: Moveno stores only your country code, never your GPS coordinates.

How it works

  1. In onboarding or in Settings, turn 'Auto-update country' ON.
  2. Grant the location permission when your device asks — this records your consent for country detection.
  3. Moveno determines your country code (e.g. NL, DE, FR) once and uses it to rank local food products higher in your search results.
  4. To stop it, turn 'Auto-update country' OFF at any time — this records a withdrawal of your consent.
  5. If you deny the location permission, Moveno falls back to your device's region setting and processes no location data at all.

Good to know

  • Only your 2-letter country code is stored — never your GPS coordinates.
  • Accuracy is set to the lowest level (~3 km, cell-tower based), so the GPS radio stays off and battery impact is negligible.
  • Your coordinates are used only briefly to work out the country and then discarded; they never reach the database, logs, or error reports.
  • Country-detection changes do not trigger any analytics events.
  • To convert your location into a country, your coordinates are sent to Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) as part of their standard platform service — that platform processing is outside Moveno's control.
  • The legal basis is your explicit consent via the toggle (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).

Common questions

Does Moveno track my location? No, there is no continuous tracking — Moveno derives a country code once when you enable the feature and stores nothing but that code.

Why does the app ask for location permission? To set your country so local food products rank higher in your search results.

How do I turn off country detection? Turn 'Auto-update country' OFF in Settings.

Are my GPS coordinates saved? No — coordinates are processed briefly and then discarded; only the country code is kept.
